Otters are very playful animals and have a rich social life. They appear to engage in various behaviours for sheer enjoyment, such as making waterslides and then sliding on them into the water. It has a sleek brown fur, which is often paler on the underside, and a long body with a thick tail and short legs. Adaptations for an aquatic lifestyle include webbed feet, the ability to close the small ears and the nose when under water, and very dense, short fur which traps a layer of air to insulate the body. Many sensitive hairs frame the snout which help the otter to locate prey.
Most Otters live by the rivers in Northern Sweden, but the population is also increasing in the South. Most otters live near fresh water but can also live in marine environments along the coast. They often use old, abandoned beaver lodges.
Because otters have short legs It is easier to slide in snow, so the tracks are easily recognizable. Mostly they have a pattern of step-step-slide. In deeper snow it is mostly one long slide with their paws in between. Often you can find their habitats in the side of the river or close to the river in the form of a hole in the snow. Also, it is possible to find places where they make holes in the weaker ice to go hunting for fish.
