1. ALLEMANSRÄTTEN

(The Right of Public Access)
The right of public access makes it possible for everyone to move around freely, regardless of conditions.

The Right of Public Access is fantastic! In the long run, the right of public access contributes to equal public health because outdoor recreation and outdoor recreation give us well-being and good physical and mental health.

However, the right of public access is not only a right but also entails obligations. We who use the right of public access and spend time in nature also need to take into account, to nature and wildlife, landowners and other visitors.

Thanks to the right of public access, we can move freely in the Swedish nature. The Right of Public Access works if everyone takes responsibility for assessing what is appropriate right here and now, by reading the landscape and assessing the situation. Different activities, locations and times determine what you can do or not. Together, it is out shared responsibility to use this ancient custom with care. Therefore, it is important to find out what rights and obligations are included the right of public access. A good rule is: Fell free to enjoy nature but leave no footprints!

The Oudoor Access Rights

Example obligations as a guest to the Swedish nature

What can you do as a guest in the Swedish nature?

• Fancy a hot dog? Fires should only be made in designated places. Consider the fire risks and find out if any local restrictions apply in the area you are about to visit.
• Pack a bag for rubbish and leftovers, to make it easier to bring everything back home.

• Are you taking your dog with you? Please keep it on a leash. This is particularly important from March to August when wild animals have their young. During that period, dogs are not allowed to run free in areas where wild animals may live.

• You are free to pick flowers, berries and mushrooms in the countryside. But keep in mind that some plants are protected, meaning that they must not be picked. Special rules apply in protected areas, for example, in national parks and nature reserves. (Make sure there is enough for animals to eat)
